"I am the part" shirt

$28.00

Core de Ballet Collection

My appearance will never stop me from pursuing the role I’ve always dreamed of dancing. Let's look at how we see Repertoire roles and paint them with new colors, breathe new life into them. Regardless of my height, build, or the color of my skin, eyes or hair, I can be Giselle, Kitri, Odette, or Gulnare; I can be Conrad, Siegfried, Basilio, or Albrecht.

As dancers we are protean artists; through our hard work, we give life to any character or abstract concept. We want this shirt to spread the word loud and clear: Any role is meant to look like the dancer who embodies it – it’s up to me to make it my own.

I may not "look the part" to others’ standards. So what? I AM the part today.

See you on stage!

What Makes it special?

Inspired by being bold and embracing our differences, Ondine D. of Core de Ballet designed the shirt to push through stereotypes. She wanted to drive home the message that a role can be danced by any dancer of any height, build or eye/hair/skin color. Our beautiful art is limitless when we embrace this idea. The design was especially illustrated by Teacher Lina herself.

“I don’t look the part, I am the part” serves as a reminder that the best artists create with what they have, what they were born with and what they've learned. May dancers embrace all types of characters and enjoy the process of bringing them to life in their own unique way. May we let our beautiful dancers show us how their sense of artistry and hard work make the part theirs.

  • Made with lots of love and 100% cotton.

  • Available in white.
